Pregnancy

Things to expect while pregnant.

A surprise from my insurance company

A few weeks ago a representative from my insurance company called me.  She told me she had worked as a nurse with pregnant women and as a lactation aide for 30 years.  She explained to me that I was entered into a new program called Humana Beginnings.  This is a program designed to help mothers give their babies a healthy start in life by providing support, guidance and resources both in your community and online to pregnant women.

Talk to your insurance company when you become pregnant

It is important to inform your insurance company when you become pregnant. You need to be aware of what percentage of visits, tests, ultrasounds etc are covered and what you are responsible for. Some insurance companies have a deductible for the baby that must be paid. For example my insurance company has a deductible for the baby if he or she has to stay in the hospital longer than I do or if the baby is a boy and needs to be circumcised. If the baby does not need to be hospitalized longer than I do and there is no circumcision than they waive the deductible.

First Screen Testing for Birth Defects

I was given the option to have the First Screen test done at around 12 weeks.  This test is done while your pregnant, to determine if there is a greater risk of the baby having some birth defects such as Down syndrome and trisomy 18.  The assessment includes a blood test and a special ultrasound measurement called nuchal translucency.  The purpose of the blood test is to measure the proteins that are made by every developing baby and the placenta, and are found in every pregnant woman's blood.  If the fetus is at great risk for Downs syndrome or triomy 18 the levels of t

Exercising throughout your pregnancy will help you give birth much easier

Every day 12,000 women will give birth in the US. Some have easier pregnancies than others, especially for those women who exercise throughout their pregnancies. According to the Ohio State University Medical Center experts, exercising and eating right while your pregnant will deliver much better results and could make giving birth much easier.

Morning Sickness

I have been experiencing morning sickness so the doctor suggested that I try Preggie Pops which is a natural way to ease morning sickness. They are lollipops that you suck on and they really do work. They contain natural ingredients made from essential oils, they are drug free and they are recommended by Healthcare Professionals. There are seven natural flavors such as Peppermint, Spearmint, Lavender, Ginger, Sour Lemon, Sour Tangerine and Sour Raspberry. They really do work. I keep them by my bedside so that when I'm nauseous I can just suck on one.

Baby #2 on the way

On the 28th of September I found out that I am pregnant with my second child. The knew that I was a few days late and we didn't use any protection so it wasn't too much of a surprise. I was also feeling very tired and I noticed my breasts feeling tender which was out of the ordinaryfor me.  I knew something was going on.  I took a home pregnancy test and it read positive immediately. I am a little nervous to bring this child into the world in it's current state, but hopefully things will get better with the next presidency.

C-section

I didn't know I was going to have a c-section until the day I had my son. Surprisingly enough I wasn't that scared, I trusted the doctors and nurses and it went well. My husband sat next to my head and talked to me during the quick procedure. When our son was born the doctor said he was "out," but he was quite for a few seconds. In that moment my husband and I looked at one another with worry and finally we heard our son's first cry. It was amazing. Recovery from the c-section for me wasn't bad. I was cleaning, carrying laundry baskets and all that once I got home.

Life after giving birth

It is rough for the first few weeks after having the baby. It took some getting used to because the baby's needs come before yours, really. You have to get the baby into a routine which can be difficult at first. Everything is difficult when it's a new thing, but you quickly learn. Within no time you start to learn about your baby and yourself. Before you know it the baby will eat and nap at the same time each day. At this time you start to learn your baby's likes and dislikes. And as your baby learns to play you learn what you baby likes in that respect.

It's positive

To be honest initially seeing the pregnancy test results was a little scary when it read positive. My initial thought was will I be a good parent?  I wondered will I do a better job than my parents. Beyond that initial anxiety I was extremely happy I told my fiance and he didn't believe it. He darted from the bedroom to the bathroom to look at the results first hand. We were very happy. For the remainder of the day we drove around and told my fiance family members in person the big news. i didn't seem right that we weren't married yet so we started to the plan the wedding.

My journey through parenthood

First of all let me just say that this blog is just my experience and my interpretation of things. OK, that being said let me say that I loved being pregnant. At first it was a little hard to get used to gaining all the weight, but I knew it was for the baby and his or her growth. I gained too much weight, like 55 pounds, but I loved gaining it. The first pregnancy and all I just ate whatever I wanted and in large portions. I always told myself I'll loss it afterwards right as I was about to eat something totally naughty. I would definitely change that next time I get pregnant.
