Doctors don't know everything

One day this week my son woke up with what looked like a mosquito bite right below his eye. It didn't seem to bother him much until later in the day. Then it began to swell up and eventually his entire eye was swollen and it was extremely red around the bite. The following day I took him to the doctor. The doctor said that the tissue around the eye and mouth are very sensitive and prone to bruising or redness when irritated. He prescribed an antibiotic called Amox-Clav 400mg/5ML susp 50 ML (Amoxicillin and Clavulanate Potassium for Oral Suspension, USP 400 mg/5ml). My son is 2 years old and was given such a strong antibiotic. I gave him the first dose (1 teaspoon) most of which he spit out. A few hours after that he began vomiting violently. Some of the side effects were nausea and vomiting. I ended up not giving him the antibiotic again. In the mean time the swelling and redness subsided within a day or two and he didn't need the antibiotic.

I wasted money on an antibiotic that I barely used and then I found out that Publix gives some antibiotics free of charge including this one. Some others are Keflex, Cepro and Penicillin.
